A Plastic Free Australia #ClearTides

The pressure to reduce and ban single-use plastics has been growing for some time. Campaigns such as Plastic Free July, #BanTheBag and the ABC’s War on Waste have grown awareness and gathered widespread support from the Australian public. Single-use items such as plastic straws, water bottles, disposable cups and plastic bags are being targeted to be phased out and replaced with reusable, environmentally friendly options. For too long these single-use plastics, a convenience, have become so ingrained in our world and throwaway culture that often people don’t think twice about the impacts of them.

HANDS ACROSS THE SAND PORT LINCOLN

On Saturday the 20th May, local citizens of Port Lincoln gathered together to join us and many passionate individuals, to show their resistance against big oil companies wanting to drill in the Great Australian Bight. 

Approximately 100 people came down and joined hands, listened to speakers and marked their hands prints on banners to show support. Eyre Peninsula, is home to worldly renown eco tourism, pristine beaches and coastline, marine species of which 85% are endemic to the area, world class waves, a $450 million dollar fishing industry and also a wonderful, naturally beautiful lifestyle for people who reside there.
